I very much enjoy looking after animals. My primary
expertise is with dogs, however I am happy to take care of most any pet, so
long as you can show me how to best care for it. I am first aid certified for dogs and cats and have a great deal of experience in canine behavior. I take pet-sitting very
seriously and am passionate about helping pets feel most comfortable and well-loved.
Services I Offer:
- plant-sitting (I’m a certified Master Gardener!)
- basic dog training
- dog pedicures (nail clipping and buffing)
First Time Procedure
I prefer to meet your pets before you go away so that I can
learn their routine first-hand and they can begin to feel comfortable with me.
Upon my first visit, I will bring an informational sheet upon which I
will write every detail you can give me about caring for your pet as well as
your home. I will also bring an associate and back-up sitter (if available) so that they can learn the ropes in case anything happens to me such as
sickness, an accident, too many bookings, etc. I will ensure that should anything happen to me or
my assigned back-up sitter, your animals will still be well taken-care of.
While you are away I can send you photo updates to show you what
your pets are up to. I will strive to remain in contact and available to
you. I intend to give your pets the best possible care, and I will love doing
History of Pet Care Services
Having grown up constantly surrounded by dogs and cuddly
animals, I am happiest when my world is full of them. My
parents owned many dogs over the years- at one point we had seven! The one thing
consistently able to make me light me up is interacting with dogs and other
When I went to
college the only thing that I hated about the experience was the lack of dogs. As
a first year at Salem
College, I was delighted
to take a class on the psychology of dogs offered by Psychologist and long-time
volunteer with The Winston Salem Dog Training Club, Dr. Jeff Ersoff. Dr. Ersoff
became my first pet sitting client and dog guru, and was the catalyst for my
studies into the psychology and training of dogs. After a couple of years of
pet-sitting for Ersoff’s pack of dogs and a few friends, I decided that
pet-sitting was essentially the most enjoyable job I could imagine, so I began
to expand my client base and hand out business cards. Five years later, here I
am with a roster of clients and Google Calendar constantly reminding me when my
next visit is. I love it!
I was excellent at sitting in college because I was so appreciative of pets since I couldn't have any- I currently employ a part time staff of animal lovers from my Alma Mater who are sure to spoil pets.
Not content to merely look after dogs, I wanted to
make a major difference in some of their lives, so in 2012 I began volunteering
monthly with Forsyth County Animal Control through Hiking Hounds and weekly
with Collie Rescue of the Carolinas. These
volunteer experiences give me more insight into canine behavior, grooming, and medical
procedures the longer I work with them. I strongly endorse both entities. One of my long term goals is to rescue a dog, train it to become a therapy dog and take it around to nursing homes.
I am currently looking to expand my pet care services and hope to make a significant portion of my income from doing what I love.
